Happy National Train Your Dog Month!
Did you know January is National Train Your Dog Month? It’s true! And as dog trainers, we love this month because it gives us a chance to help all those “Christmas puppies” that were adopted out or bought from breeders before Christmas 🙂 If you haven’t celebrated this month before, maybe you should this year if Santa brought a new dog to your home for Christmas 😉
So, what’s the history? According to their website, the Association of Professional Dog Trainers started the campaign in 2010 to bring awareness of the importance of training and socialization – and that it could be fun! They chose January because of all the dogs that were adopted or purchased from breeders and brought home before the winter holidays. Plus, it timed well with “starting the new year off right” with a new four-legged addition 😉
Let’s face it – as new dog owners, you’ve also had a chance to try training your puppy and are now realizing you may need some additional help.

Maybe you can’t quite get your dog housebroken. Maybe once your dog has had some time to adjust, he’s starting to chew on everything in site instead of just his toys. Maybe he’s decided all the kids’ new toys they got for Christmas are his, too 😉 Maybe that fenced in yard you thought would contain your dog can’t keep Fido in because he’s digging or jumping the fence. Or maybe, the cute small puppy you brought home has grown quicker than you thought and can now dump trash cans or jump on tables/counters and get your food. Maybe – just maybe – the dog you thought was a great walker is now more confident in his surroundings and will pull your arm out of socket during your walk. Maybe the dog you brought home to be a companion to another animal needs some help adjusting…

Whatever the reason, you realize you can’t do it alone. That’s where National Train Your Dog Month helps bring that awareness to dog owners. Invest in some help with training/behavior modification, and you can enjoy your dog so much more for the rest of it’s life!
The other good news for dog owners is – there might be some dog training specials running around out there 😉 Yes, we are offering one, too!
